56 answers about sidelet, plans, your Macs and your data.

The app

What is sidelet?

sidelet puts everyday Mac tools in one app that lives in your menu bar: keeping your Mac awake, battery and system stats, window management, clipboard history, screenshots and recordings, text recognition, sound and display controls, file tools and automation. You switch on only the modules you use.

Which Macs does sidelet run on?

sidelet runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Some tools depend on your hardware, like battery charging limits, fan control and certain sensors, so they only appear where your Mac supports them.

Do I have to use every tool?

No. Turn on the modules you want and leave the rest off. sidelet only asks for the permissions that the modules you enable actually need.

Why does sidelet ask for permissions?

Some tools need a macOS permission, for example Accessibility to move and resize windows, or Screen Recording to capture your screen. sidelet asks when you turn on a module that needs one and tells you when something is missing.

How do I install sidelet?

Download it from sidelet.app, open the disk image and move sidelet to Applications. Follow the normal macOS prompts. If macOS says the app can't be verified, don't bypass it. Contact support instead.

Are updates included?

Yes. Every plan includes every tool and every update. New versions are published on sidelet.app with release notes.

Does sidelet work offline?

Yes, for a while. sidelet checks your access when you're connected. After a successful check it can keep working for up to 24 hours without a connection, within your trial or paid access. There's no offline mode to switch on.

What happens to my Mac's settings if I stop using sidelet?

When access ends, sidelet safely undoes the system changes it made where needed, and you can still export your local data.

Free trial and launch offer

How does the free trial work?

You get 7 days of Solo on one Mac. The 7 days start when you first activate sidelet on your Mac, not when you create your account.

Do I need a credit card to try sidelet?

No. The trial never asks for a card, and it never turns into a paid plan on its own.

Will you remind me before my trial ends?

Yes. We email you two days before the end and again the day before, so nothing catches you by surprise.

What happens when my trial ends?

Pick a plan to keep going. If you don't, sidelet's features stop and nothing is charged. Your local data stays on your Mac.

Can I buy a plan during my trial?

Yes. Your trial keeps its end date, and your first payment is scheduled for the day the trial ends. You see the exact date and total before you confirm.

Can I start another trial with a new account?

No. Trials are one per person and one per Mac, and reinstalling doesn't reset them. If a repair or a second-hand Mac blocks your trial by mistake, contact support.

What is the launch offer?

The first 100 people who join the waitlist and confirm their email get a 30-day trial instead of 7. You need to activate sidelet within 7 days of launch. How the launch offer works

I have a launch pass and already started a 7-day trial. Do I lose the month?

No. Your pass extends that same trial to 30 days from the day it started.

Plans and pricing

What's the difference between Solo and Duo?

Both include every feature. Solo is one person with one Mac license. Duo is two people with separate accounts on one bill, and each person gets one Mac license. More Macs are available for a small fee.

How much does sidelet cost?

Solo is $6.99 a month or $59 a year. Duo is $10.99 a month or $89 a year for both of you. Prices include applicable taxes.

How much do I save by paying yearly?

On Solo, paying yearly gets you 3 months free compared with paying monthly. Duo paid yearly works out to $3.71 a month per person.

Are there feature tiers or add-ons?

No. Every plan includes every tool and every update. The only extra is Extra Macs, a small fee for one person who uses more than one Mac.

What is an Extra Mac?

An Extra Mac lets the same person use sidelet on another Mac, for a small fee of $1.99 a month or $15 a year. It belongs to one person and doesn't add another user. Add one in Subscription in your account.

How many Macs can one plan have?

Up to 10 Macs in total. Each person on the plan has one Mac license included. More Macs are Extra Macs, for a small fee of $1.99 a month or $15 a year each.

Which currency will I pay in?

Prices are in euros across Europe and in US dollars everywhere else. Once you subscribe, your plan keeps its currency.

Do prices include tax?

Yes. The price you see includes applicable taxes, and checkout shows the exact total before you pay.

Will my price go up?

If we ever change prices for existing plans, we tell you in advance. A completed order is never changed behind your back.

Billing and payments

How do I pay?

Checkout is handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach our servers.

When will I be charged?

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. Cancel renewal in Subscription in your account. You keep what you've paid for until the end of the current period.

Do I get money back if I cancel early?

Macs and activation

I got a new Mac. How do I move sidelet?

How often can I replace a Mac?

Up to two replacements per person in any 30 days. Removing a lost Mac is always possible, and support can help with repairs.

My Mac was lost or stolen. What should I do?

Remove it in Macs in your account. It stops getting access checks right away. Contact support if you need an exception for a replacement.

sidelet doesn't recognise my subscription.

Connect to the internet so sidelet can check again. If your Mac's clock went backwards, correct the time first. Still stuck? Contact support with the reference sidelet shows.

Duo

How does Duo work?

You pay for both of you and invite the second person by email in People. Each person gets one Mac license, their own account and their own settings. Extra Macs can be added for either of you for a small fee.

Can the other person see my data?

No. Duo shares a bill, not your data. Your files and settings stay on your own Mac.

Is there a Duo trial?

The free trial is Solo. You can order Duo during your trial, and Duo access starts once the first payment is confirmed.

Can I change who the second person is?

Yes. The plan owner can replace the second person once in any 30 days, in People in your account.

Who manages billing on Duo?

The plan owner. They pay, manage Extra Macs in Subscription and see the invoices in Billing.

Account and security

Why do I choose my password after confirming my email?

So nobody can create an account with an address they don't own. You confirm the email first, then set your password.

What makes a valid password?

At least 8 characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a number. Symbols are optional, and longer is stronger.

I forgot my password.

Use Forgot password when you log in. We email you a reset link that works for 30 minutes and only once.

Can I change my email address?

Yes, in Settings in your account. We confirm the new address by email before switching.

How do I delete my account?

In Privacy in your account. Deleting your account revokes app access and stops future billing. Invoices we must keep by law stay on record, and files on your Mac aren't touched.

Privacy and data

Does sidelet upload my files?

No. Your clipboard history, screenshots, recordings and files are processed on your Mac. A file only reaches us if you attach it to a support request yourself.

What do your servers store?

Your email and name, your plan and invoices, your Macs' names and app versions, and a pseudonymous device ID that stops trials from being reused. It isn't your serial number.

Do you track what I do in the app?

No. There are no usage analytics in the app, and we never sell your data.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Request an export in Privacy in your account. It covers what our servers hold. Files that only live on your Mac aren't part of it.

Where is my data stored?

Our servers are hosted by Hetzner in Nuremberg, Germany. Stripe handles payments and Resend sends our emails. Privacy notice
